Nutria in California: Current Status and Response

Previously thought to have been eradicated from California, a population of nutria was found in Merced County in 2017, and since found in five other counties in the San Joaquin Valley. Nutria can degrade the integrity of levees due to burrowing.

Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area, 45211 County Rd. 32B, Davis CA

Tour the Yolo Wildlife Area with an experienced field trip leader the second Saturday of the month from October through June. View flooded seasonal and permanent wetlands, native grasslands and young riparian forests. Depending on the season, look for migrating and resident waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds, raptors, and wading birds. During periods of inclement weather or flooding, please check website for possible trip cancellation. Children are welcome on all trips. Pets are not. Meet in Parking Lot A.
